If you are a dear patient for whom a pacemaker has been implanted, you should pay attention to the following:

  • When leaving the hospital, please do not contact the wound with water until the first appointment with the doctor.
  • Always keep the device’s identification card in your wallet and present it when necessary.
  • Noting the wound of any sign of inflammation and informing the doctor immediately when it occurs (redness, secretions, severe pain, high temperature ……….)
  • Avoid suddenly raising the hand above the shoulder level, driving a car, carrying heavy objects or performing intense exercises at least during the first three months of the date the device was installed (ask your doctor when you can carry out your normal daily activity)
  • Avoid hitting or pressing as well as tight clothes on the device
  • Avoid any high electromagnetic field that may affect the pacemaker such as the proximity to radio and television broadcasting stations and radar stations.
  • You can use the cell phone on the opposite side of the device.
  • You should report the pacemaker when visiting any doctor, especially the dentist, surgeon, and radiologist, and avoid MRIs in particular.
  • You can safely use the electrical appliances in the home including (mixer, toaster, hair dryers, shavers, electric stoves, fridge, microwave …… ..)
  • Show the identification card when you visit the airport, government agencies and shops with a magnetic inspection gate and request manual inspection, not devices.
  • You must adhere to the prescribed medications and do not stop or replace any medication except after consulting your physician.
  • In case of preparing for any surgery, the device programming should be examined before and after surgery by the specialist doctor.

You must inform your doctor immediately in the following cases:

  • If there is swelling or any sign of the above mentioned wound infection.
  • Feeling of any new unexplained symptoms or symptoms similar to the one you were suffering from
  • From them before implanting the device.
  • Feeling symptoms of a fast heartbeat for more than three minutes or more
  • For the period of time specified by you doctor.
  • In the event of receiving an electric shock if the device is a shock device
  • Electric cultivated.
  • Inquire or ask about anything related to the pacemaker
